Going to take my boss to buy his new truck on Saturday. Gonna pass a Gander Mountain on the way home. Thinking about picking up a 22. semi auto to plink with, any suggestions? $350 to $400 to play with

That still uses the basic platform for the 10/22.
    You'd be good to go.

When I was young my Uncle let me shoot his pump action .22. Don't know the model but I've wanted one since.

Remington or S&W makes a .22 carbine that you can accessorize. My son has one. They both may, I dunno.

    Here's my .22 plinker:

It is rare. I have a c-more railway red dot on it and use it to shoot steel challenge. Some strings in under 2 seconds.

The S&W M&P 22 is okay. You'll wear out the plastic feed lips on the magazines in short order though.

That is a fairly rare Ruger 10/22 as they go. If in stock at the distributor/manufacturer, it should only take a couple days.

You will easily find a Takedown model:

You can cool it up later.

The point being, there is literally hundreds of things you can do with a Ruger 10/22. Anything else pretty much just IS WHAT IT IS.
